Allysia has taught private piano lessons since 2005 through Long and McQuade in Regina, Saskatchewan, where she received extensive training and the opportunity to teach students of all ages and skill levels. In addition to her teaching experience, she has collaborated in many musical and film projects in a wide spectrum of genres, composing lyrics, vocals, and piano selections. She has completed Level 9 of the Royal Conservatory of Music program and is working toward A.R.C.T. diplomas in Performance and Pedagogy.
As a child and young adult, Allysia competed in contemporary music festivals, performing in the Midwestern finals on several occasions where she received medals and scholarships. Preparing pieces such as Yanni’s ‘Marching Season’ and ‘The Barber of Seville’ gave her the opportunity to arrange music as well as co-create backing orchestral tracks.
Later, Allysia moved fully into the realm of composition and performed with several bands, including The Criminal Kid, a rock group she fronted which enjoyed success in her hometown and allowed her to perform regularly across the prairies. In 2012, The Criminal Kid released a full-length album mastered by RAK Studios in the UK (Radiohead, Paul McCartney, Neil Young), which has received positive press.
Arranging and performing modern music (in addition to Classical) has always been at the heart of Allysia’s teaching style, and her students have enjoyed scholarships and high grades at contemporary music festivals in Saskatchewan, many achieving 1st place. In addition, Allysia has successfully prepared students for RCM examinations up to Level 8. She teaches RCM curriculum and contemporary styles, theory, history, ear training, sight reading and composition. She is very excited to join the teaching team at Upbeat Piano Studio and looks forward to helping students increase their musical skills in all areas.
